Students in Mrs. Bunker’s distance learning Marine Science class participated in a virtual field trip with Mote Marine Laboratory on Thursday, February 10th, 2022. Students from Granville, Schuylerville, Warrensburg, OESJ, Cambridge, Amsterdam, Corinth, Galway, Indian Lake, and SS Seward interacted with Jason Robertshaw to learn about sharks as part of their unit on marine fishes. Students were asked several questions about sharks in a game-style format “fact vs. myth.” They learned about the diversity and adaptations of sharks during the half hour program. Granville student, Emma Hover, commented that she “really enjoyed this new style of learning and getting information.”

Mote Marine Laboratory is located in Sarasota, Florida and is one of the oldest marine research laboratories in Florida. Mrs. Bunker has been connecting with educators at Mote for several years to provide students with real-life experiences. Jane Boston, a student from Warrensburg, stated how much fun she had on today’s field trip. “I'm going to college for biology next year, so things like this are really exciting! I appreciate how much work you put into this class to make it fun, and all of the experiences you work to give us.”
