Dignity for All Students Act (DASA)

New York State’s Dignity for All Students Act (The Dignity Act) seeks to provide the State’s public elementary and secondary school students with a safe and supportive environment free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment, and bullying on school property, a school bus and/or at a school function.

School personnel are required to notify an administrator of a DASA report within one day and then to file a written report  no later than two days after the original report.

Upon receipt, the DASA coordinator is required to complete a prompt investigation.  If the investigation is founded, consequences are applied. In the JSHS, we also begin an internal DASA tracking system so that we are able to document and elevate any incidents involving repeat offenders. Discipline, in most cases, is progressive.
Parents or Guardians may also submit DASA reports to the school on behalf of their children.

The District BOE policy can be found here: review this link
NYSED has also published a slide deck on this topic that may have additional helpful information.

A copy of the form to use to submit a DASA complaint can be found HERE.
