Could a love for video games lead to a rewarding career? Absolutely! Granville Jr/Sr High School is thrilled to announce a new art elective: Video Game Design. Led by Art Teacher Todd Houston, this course will guide students through the world of game creation and coding skills using the powerful Unity platform.
Mr. Houston, inspired by his passion for both old and new media, took the initiative to introduce this program to Granville. He explains, “I wanted to ensure our students are prepared for a future where digital skills are essential. This program allows students to create virtual environments that can be experienced from anywhere in the world—all from right here in Granville.”
You might be surprised to learn that the Unity platform is behind many products we use daily—like the apps that help us visualize furniture in our homes or customize cars at dealerships. As technology continues to grow, so do the job opportunities for Unity developers. Now is the perfect time for students to explore this exciting field.
Imagine your student designing and launching their own video game. In this course, they’ll not only dive into the creative side of game design but also learn valuable skills like problem-solving and user experience—skills that are essential in today’s job market. They'll even gain a taste of entrepreneurship as they navigate the process of publishing and selling their creations.
Before jumping into Video Game Design, students will need to complete a Studio Art class with Ms. Monroe, to grasp the basics of design.
This course provides foundational skills for pursuing a vocational certification in Unity Design, valuable for careers in game design and software development.
This is more than just a class; it’s an opportunity for students to turn their passion into a future profession. Who knows? The next big game could be created right here in Granville!
