Granville Jr/Sr High News 11/22/24

Good Afternoon!

Great things are happening at Granville Jr/Sr High:

Our Granville School District PTO is leading the way by refreshing our Care Closet that is located in the Jr. High Guidance office. If you would like to contribute or learn more, here is the link to their PTO Facebook Post. The Care Closet is a place our 7-12 students can shop for free clothing and personal care items to fill in the gaps when in need.

Winter Sports Families: Modified Practices start next week. Check out the Sports Updates below.

On Saturday, Dec 7th, GES will be hosting a Free Used-Like-New Book Giveaway. Do you have friends, family and neighbors with elementary age kiddos? Come get free books from GES Garage from 9am - 11am, behind the school near the baseball fields. Details in the upcoming events below.

Grades went home last week. Here is where you can check grades online.

Sports Updates

Winter Sports Practices have begun! Modified practices start next week and the schedule is as follows:

  • Boys modified basketball: 6-7:30pm JR. High Gym

  • Girls modified 8th grade basketball: 3:30-5pm GES gym

  • Girls modified 7th grade basketball: 5-6:30pm GES gym

  • Modified wrestling: 3:30pm Wrestling Room

All winter sports except for Wrestling (because they have Whitehall students) will be using Parent Rooms in the Granville CSD app for all coach-player-parent communications. In the lower right-hand corner of the Granville CSD app, you can toggle to "Rooms", turn on notifications and your student's sport teams will populate once your coach has published their Room.

Here is the link to the up-to-date game schedule for grades 7-12. .

Staff Highlight

Mr. Lambert's Senior English Classes and Mr. Cosey's Personal Finance classes participated in job training mock interviews this week in collaboration with the Granville Rotary Club members who did the interviewing. Thank you to our teachers and community members for offering this to our students.

Here is a short video snapshot of the day on our Facebook page.

Want to become a community partner with our school district? It takes an entire community working together to help our students succeed. Please contact our Community School Coordinator at krozell@granvillecsd.org.

We Need Your Help

Please Arrive on Time

Encourage your student to arrive to school 10-15 minutes early and take advantage of our free breakfast program to fuel up for the day. No registration required.

Being on time and coming to school each day helps your student learn good habits that will help them get and keep a good job as an adult. We know it's not always easy and we appreciate your support.

Remind your student to set those alarms and prepare the night before for school with this checklist, especially if you're not home in the mornings or evenings.

Contact our guidance counselors if you would like additional support and we will work with you. Thank you!

Career Planning

Granville CSD can help your student build a career that they will be proud of.

Start early and encourage your student to talk to guidance about their options - be it in the skilled trades, the Telescope program, SUNY Adirondack, the many vocational training programs at BOCES or a 4-year college.

Our students can also start earning vocational or college credit while in high school - a huge savings!

It all starts with showing up on time and being ready to participate in school.

Try This: Ask your student to take this career assessment from SUNY Adirondack to get a feel for what they're interested in and how it relates to finding a good job. When your student can see the point of school (for example, a pathway to a great job, independence and helping their family), they become much more interested. Bring your results to guidance to discuss ideas.

See you next week!
