Bundle Up and Explore the StoryWalk Trail
Looking for something to do with your littles? Check out the StoryWalk® Trail, located in the heart of Granville Village. Kids and parents both will love this activity that combines reading and the great outdoors.
The StoryWalk Trail features 14-placards set up at easily walkable intervals. These placards feature successive pages from a short story, ideal for children 3-8. The story is changed out every month by the Pember Library.
The trail starts on the D&H Rail Trail where it intersects with Main Street near the Station House B&B. Free parking is available in the adjacent parking lot. Visitors can then follow the StoryWalk along the D&H Rail Trail until just before the pedestrian bridge over the Mettowee River. Before the bridge, take a right on the gravel path to continue following the course of the river. Follow this path past the Slate Valley Museum and across the covered footbridge. The StoryWalk ends at the Pember Library. Here is the link to the StoryWalk information.
Prepare an Entry for the PTO Science, Technology and Art Fair
Each year, the Granville PTO hosts a Science, Technology and Art Fair at the Granville Jr/Sr High and this year's event is on March 25th, 2026 5:30 PM with a March 2nd deadline to register for free. Consider creating a small project for the fair during mid-winter break. All students Pre-K through 12 are welcome to enter a project for the fair at no cost. Here is the link to learn more about the fair.

Find a Resource on the Community School Page
Mid-winter break is a halfway mark of the school year and it's also a great time to review what's available for your student and your family. From parenting resources, tutoring help, to family organizing and screen time tips, to even cool free apps and websites to keep your student busy, visit the Community School page and find something good for your student and family. Here is the link to the Community School Page.
Start a Career Planning Conversation
When is the right time to start planning for what happens after high school? The earlier the better!
For grades 7 - 12, there is a new Career Planning page for students, graduates and families on the GranvilleCSD.org website. When students have more time during school breaks, encourage your student to take a free career interest assessment, or learn about what kind of apprenticeships are available or simply taking a look at the BOCES programs or college prep courses your student can plan ahead for. Here is the link to the Career Planning page. You could even "assign" your student to review one of the links on the career planning page per day while you're at work, and discuss it at dinner or over a drive.
In elementary school, you can start with the basics like focusing on attendance, getting to school on time each day, and attending a home game at the Jr/Sr High or Granville Elementary (We encourage school families to attend home games, whether you have a player on the team or not). Reading 10-20 minutes on most days helps them learn new words, understand problems and find solutions. Consider sharing your hopes and dreams for your student with your child from time to time and talking about how school, while it isn't always easy and sometimes will be challenging, can help them access a path to those hopes and dreams.
Donate an item for the PTO Care Closet at the Jr/Sr High
There is a Care Closet in the Jr High Office where all students in grades 7 - 12 can "shop for free" for personal care items like deodorants, shampoo, and clothing basics to fill in the gaps, as needed. Deodorants, shampoo/conditioner and chapsticks go fast. A couple times per year, the PTO leads a community restock of the Care Closet. Items are shared with Senior High Guidance and Granville Elementary, as needed. If you would like to join the PTO by donating an item, shop locally and drop off at the District Office, c/o Karin Rozell or visit this PTO page for the Amazon Wish List for ideas or shopping online. Here is the link to the PTO Care Closet information. Thank you!
