Did you know? Yellow flashing lights on a school bus are just like yellow traffic lights: slow down and prepare to stop.

Did you know that red flashing lights on a school bus mean a FULL STOP at least 20 feet away for all bicycles and vehicles?

Did you know that passing a bus with red flashing lights is against the law and carries a minimum $250 fine as a New York State traffic violation?

This applies in parking lots, too, when our buses pull in for pick-up and drop-off.

Please spread the word!

Thank you!

Bus Safety Week! Meet the Team and Latest Updates

At Granville Elementary School today...

The transportation team led interactive lessons at GES about staying safe on the bus, around the bus and getting on and off the bus.

Why aren't we loud on the bus? It's a distraction to the driver!

How close can you stand from the bus? At least 10 feet away (or 5 giant steps of an adult).

Reminder to parents and community - The yellow flashing lights on a school bus means SLOW DOWN and PREPARE TO STOP - bikes and vehicles.

The red flashing lights means students are getting on/off the bus and bikes and cars MUST STOP by law.

GES Families, ask your students about what they learned about bus safety today.

Meet the team!

While this isn't the entire transportation team, this is who you speak with on any given day if you call the bus garage.

Kristine Coley-Thomson - Dispatcher (pictured in blue shirt)

Nicole Bishop - Transportation Secretary (pictured in black shirt)

Matt Beecher - Lead Mechanic and Bus Driver (pictured in grey shirt)

And not pictured, mechanic helper, Alicia Mount who assists Matt Beecher!

Thanks to the transportation team for a 100% bus condition rating from the NYS Department of Transportation .

We are hiring new drivers and pay for training. It's a great place to work and you can make a difference in our students' lives each day by being a caring, welcoming person they see every morning and afternoon.

Bus Safety Week Continues!

Two fun things in two days!

1) Yesterday, our bus drivers and attendants received an engaging training on "Riding the School Bus through the Eyes of Autism" from Mr. David Krause.

Mr. Krause told engaging stories of what it was like for him riding the bus as an Autistic, how he became a huge fan of buses (he arrived knowing all about each and every one of our buses!) and helped our team understand how routine, bus buddies, noise and sensory overwhelm impacts students. This increased the team's understanding of differences in others and how to support all of our students.

Bus staff also learned about Autism, how it can present (it's different for every Autistic person), asked questions, and discovered how to create a transportation environment that helps Autistic students thrive on our buses.

Thank you to Mr. Krause and to the District for bringing this training to our transportation team.

Mr. Krause will be speaking with our teaching aides and assistants next!

2) Today our transportation staff visited Mary J. Tanner school to help our youngest learners discover how to be safe around the bus, on the bus and help our drivers be distraction free.

MJT families, please be sure to ask your student about what they learned about bus safety today.

Go Horde!

Granville CSD Livestream for Home Games -
Congratulations on the PTO Staff of the Month for September 2026!

Thanks to the Granville NY PTO's help, we take time each month to acknowledge a stellar staff member in each of our three school buildings.

Staff of the Month receive a beautiful charcuterie board made of Granville slate and a fun water bottle from the PTO.

At the Jr/Sr High, Mrs. Gribble, the Senior High Secretary was nominated!

"Brittany works as our Sr High Guidance Secretary. In the constantly busy guidance office, her patience, organizational skills, and friendliness provide a calming presence in the office. She has been a great asset to our building since her hiring in 2023." - Principal Nassivera

At GES, Ms. Brown, 6th Grade Teacher was nominated!

"Tori is new to Granville Elementary School this year and has stepped into her new role with an enthusiasm, energy, and readiness that has already made an impression on our school community. She has embraced the transition to GES with the excitement of a new teacher while also approaching her responsibilities with professionalism and a genuine desire to do what is best for her students." - Principal Strong

And at MJT, Ms. Kwak, Special Education Teacher and After School Program Coordinator was nominated!

"Ms. Kwak has transitioned into a new teaching role this year, and has created an inviting, engaging, and exciting classroom full of hands-on learning experiences. Additionally, she is co-coordinating our new After School Program this year. This adds two extra hours onto her day, and a significant amount of planning, organization, and communication with staff and families. Friendly Reminder: It is extremely important that your child gets to school on time so that they can start their day with their peers. Often they have morning work tasks to work on, and coming in late to the classroom puts them behind and causes a disruption in instruction for the teacher and other students. We love seeing your student on time, everyday. See you tomorrow! Go Horde!
