What We Do

Odyssey of the Mind is a creative challenge where teams work throughout the school year on solutions to one of six complex, long-term problems focusing on the arts, mechanics, building, and more. The solution culminates in an eight-minute performance at a regional competition.

The most valuable thing that Odyssey of the Mind team members learn is how to think outside the box together. They will ultimately compete with a problem solution created and built by team members only. What makes Odyssey special is that problem solutions come completely from the team's ideas and work, not adults.

The Journey: Regional Winners advance to State Finals, hoping to represent New York at the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals!

The Reward: Meet and form friendships with students from across the US and other countries

Team Information & Eligibility

Teams can only have up to 7 interested students (max allowed).

All interested students should ATTEND THE INTEREST MEETING to submit their names for consideration.

Eligibility Review: Before the lottery, we will review academic standing, attendance, and behavioral records to ensure each student meets basic eligibility criteria (passing grades and positive behavior).

Team Formation: Seven names will be drawn by lottery from the pool of eligible students to form the final team.

A Note for Parents

We need flexible parents who are willing to commit to getting students to necessary meetings throughout the school year. Your support is key!
